IDEO: Corian Collaboration Studio

The inherent difficulty of this project is designing or placing contemporary building structure in the historic context of Savannah, GA.  In order to respect the historic value of Savannah, the building was separated into components that reflected the typical tithing block in the historic district, to prevent the massiveness of a 3-story office complex.  In order to further emphasize the main building entrance, the material Corian is used as a exterior cladding system. This system utilizes day lighting by allowing light to pass though the building’s facade with the specific use of Corian’s  Illumination Series.   Then at night, performances are projected on the back of the Corian panels.

A community center proposed for  the Bunny Friend Community Association to be constructed using local apprentice labor. The structure consists of three abstracted “shotgun house” vernacular forms connected through a light and natural ventilation corridor angled to the seasonal azimuths of the sun in addition to prevailing winds. Rooms are designed to be robustly multi-purpose, adapting to the variety of community needs while the exterior use is designed to allow for an educational gardening program while simultaneously serving as a low impact bioswale.

Bunny Friend Park

Auburn Ave Music Center

The Auburn Education Alliance building seeks to rebuild a geographically shattered community around a common nexus. The modular building form is derived from a synthesis of the surrounding architectural vernacular with contemporary structural innovation.

This building exists not as a contrast to its surroundings, but as a catalyst.  A catalyst for re-connection, to “uplift” those participating.
